Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel (Dümpelfeld - Bad Bertrich)

The tour demands good physical fitness and a love for constant changes in elevation, taking you from the Ahr region through the Vulkaneifel to the Moselle Valley. The long climb from Adenau up to Nürburg is particularly challenging. Here, the Nürburgring calls this area home, and the Nürburg Castle ruins sit atop an extinct volcano. Panoramic views can be enjoyed from the castle or on a 4 km detour near Adenau to Hohe Acht, the highest peak in the Eifel at 747 meters. With fresh wind at your back, you'll pass by the Ulmener Maar, the youngest of the Eifel maars, and enjoy endless expanses of cultivated fields, meadows, and forests. From the Lutzerather Höhe, the final descent leads into the spa town of Bad Bertrich, home to Germany's only Glauber's salt thermal spring.

Distance: 67,4 km. Duration: 5:00 h. Difficulty: difficult
