Treis has two castles, which indicates the importance of the village at the time it was built The first castle, now Treis Castle, was strategically located on the steep slopes of Dünnbach and Flaumbach, overlooking the village. The choir of the former parish church of St. Katharina has been preserved as an extension to the town hall. The church was destroyed in 1945. In 1353, a church in Treis is mentioned under the patronage of St. Castor and incorporated into Karden. The building, of which today's memorial chapel formed the choir, was built in the 15th century.

The former collegiate and now parish church of St. Castor with its mighty towers still dominates the village today. In 1699, the Electoral Court architect Sebastiani raised the west tower by two storeys and placed the Baroque helmet with lantern on top.
